The ‘Faces of Mosman’ Photography Competition is a signature event of the 2006 Mosman Festival.
With over 200 entries received, judges faced a difficult task in selecting 80 for exhibition. The selected photographs reflect the diverse, strange and beautiful aspects of Mosman as well as the wide variety of people who live and work in the area.
As an exhibition, ‘Faces of Mosman’ provides a unique snapshot of the suburb and surrounding area.
Professional photographer and competition judge Brian McInerney whose exhibition Famous Faces: Fascinating Places is on concurrently, was impressed by the range of entries. Brian particularly admired the portraits which reflected the ages of wonder, delight and life experience on the faces of the photographers’ subjects.
Competition judge Sandra Byron, Director of Sandra Byron Gallery and former Curator of Photography at the Art Gallery of NSW, was especially delighted with the quality and variety of entries from the primary school aged photographers. These entries captured personal and often spontaneous images of the photographers’ friends, family and animals who are an important part of their life in Mosman.
