Mosman given marching orders

Over 1,000 local residents and community groups will proudly march from Bradley’s Head Road to Mosman Square next Sunday in celebration of the Mosman Festival.
Mosman Mayor, Councillor Denise Wilton said Council was delighted with the turnout as the original estimate was around 700.
“This is the first street parade since 1992 and it seems the community is as excited as we are.
“Owing to its relatively small size and village feel, Mosman has quite a strong sense of community and the overwhelming response by residents to the parade is indicative of their desire to feel connected and to experience the community spirit.
“It will be a spectacular sight when Peter Papas, dressed as the Town Crier leads the parade ahead of over 40 vintage cars carrying dignatories and HMAS Penguin Band following closely behind.
“HMAS Penguin Navy Band and personnel would have to be a highlight for spectators, as it is not very often that we have the opportunity to see this historically significant band, who I must say are excellent musicians in their own right.
“Gauging by the participation list it seems that almost every sporting and community group has made an effort to join in.
“We are hoping for a large number of spectators on the morning, so Council has organized a full road closure in conjunction with the Police and RTA to ensure maximum safety for everyone.
“The Parade, Food Fair, Family Concert and Pets Day Out on Sunday 17 is the official launch of the nine day program with the grand finale being Balmoral Fun Day on 24 Sunday.
“All we are hoping for is fine weather, so fingers crossed.”
