Sydney Harbour National Park protects various islands and foreshore areas around one of the world’s most famous harbours. It contains rare pockets of the bushland which was once common around Sydney, and in these remnants you’ll find a surprising range of native animals living in the park.
Middle and Georges Heads contain nationally significant historic sites, with the buildings and fortifications on these headlands demonstrating over 200 years of military history.
Located at the entrance to Sydney Harbour these headlands provide a perfect location for defence. While the first fort battery was constructed in 1801, most of the fortifications date from the 1870s to the 1940s. Other structures include former soldiers quarters, searchlight posts, observation stations and defensive ditches.
To further explore the site, you can go on a Discovery Tour of the tunnels and gun emplacements which overlook the harbour.
Cobblers and Obelisk Beaches, located at Middle Head within Sydney Harbour National Park, are clothing optional beaches. Nudity is permitted on the beach and in the adjacent water only. It is an offence to be nude beyond the beach.
