The Mosman Festival Photography Competition & Exhibition is a signature event of the 2008 Mosman Festival. With 470 entries received, the judge faced a difficult task in selecting 120 for exhibition from four different categories: primary students, secondary students, amateurs, and professionals.

The selected photographs reflect a diverse range of subjects from intimate portraits and figure studies to evocative landscapes and intriguing architectural studies. The styles also vary from direct photo journalism to studio works and carefully manipulated digital imagery. For those with an interest in, and knowledge of the local area, there is the ‘Mosman Subject’ category, which attracted many entries exploring and interpreting familiar and not so familiar scenes around the harbour side suburb.

Competition judge, Sandy Edwards was impressed with the variety of entries and especially the high standard and technical quality. “The Amateur, Secondary Student and Primary Student categories were particularly strong. In some categories it was extremely competitive in selecting a winner,” she said.

Competition & Exhibition sponsor, the Framing Workshop, Mosman has generously contributed to the prize pool with cash awards totaling over $2,000.

Competition winners will be announced at the opening of the Mosman Festival on Friday evening, October 24 at the Mosman Art Gallery & Community Centre.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday, October 18 until Sunday, November 9, and all visitors can vote for the Viewers Choice Award, which will be announced at the end of the exhibition.
